About the Demos & the G-Lab™ Color Technology

Keep in mind that the Online Viewer as used for these demos is very simplistic and limited. It's purpose here is to simulate how simple it is to use the special color controls in Artworks Basic™ for the purpose of study and analysis. With Artworks Basic™, you can open your own digital reference photos, fill the whole screen, zoom in, zoom out, pan, scroll around the screen at will, and study color effects "til your hearts content".

Note too, that the Online Viewer in each of these demos only demonstrates one of the controls. The actual color controls that come in the software, called RealTime CST™, go far beyond what we can show you here with this demo. There is one for "hue", two for "value" and one for "intensity" and they float on-screen so you can move them to convenient places. There is also a "color info" window which gives you real time feedback about the colors while you scroll around the screen.

RealTime CST™

The RealTime CST™ are a collection of "real time" color study tools that enable the artist to use the "interactive" power of the G-Lab™ Color Technology that's built into the software. They provide a new way to gain foundational knowledge about color in real time. That means you can learn important details about the color effects that interest you much quicker, easier and better than any other method. It's simple, but powerful. In addition, with resources like the G-Lab™ Color Charts, you are equipped with the means to put what you learn into practice.

Specialize

Not only will you be able to learn in a new way, you will be able to use these tools to specialize in the subject areas that inspire you.

Every artist has different interests, style, and potential. The RealTime™ Color Study technology is designed to work behind the scenes in such a way as to answer your unique questions. You control what you want to see and how you want to see it.

Start where you are, and move on. Study trees, water, waves, sky, clouds, hills, mountains, buildings, flowers, faces, figures, and so on. How about lighting, shading, and atmostphere like fog or distant hills? What makes things look soft, hard, rough, smooth, shiny, dull, far, near, white, black? What do you want to know about color and lighting in your favorite subject?

Overcome "tricks-of-the-eye"

As you learn to use these tools effectively, you will begin to overcome "tricks-of-the-eye" caused by phenomena like "simultaneous contrast" and the "after image" effect. Furthermore, as you gain more knowledge and build confidence, you will be able to use "simultaneous contrast" and the "after image" effect to personal advantage. And, what you learn with these tools and resources can be applied directly to "real world" painting. Instead of being fooled by the appearance of colors, you can take creative control. And, with that knowledge, you can learn how to create the appearance of more color than what's really there.

This technology will not put the paint on the canvas. Nor does it help you with technique... the brush strokes, glazing, and so on. However, equipped with this technology, you have the means to grow in your knowledge and understanding of color in a way that is unique and personal to you. As you learn and discover, you can put what you learn into practice using whatever medium you like. Your style will automatically emerge because you are in control of the learning and the application.

Use these tools to start where you are and grow.
