The Gagnon Color System (Gonyeau) has been used as the color foundation in Artworks Basic as of version 1.9.0.5. The software package also includes a set of printed color charts that are gray balanced for art (see Products).

The Gagnon Color System is a cutting edge color technology specifically made for this modern, digital world of art and science. For art, its robust 3D color model provides the "analytical" framework for analyzing color compositions in digital photos.

FAQ - Online Downloads

Online downloads are provided from the Artellmedia Portal after you purchase a license to Artworks Basic and after you have accepted the "Artworks Basic - Download User Agreement".

We send this agreement by email along with the shipping notice within 24 hours of your purchase on business days. If it appears you have not received this email, check your spam or junk folder. If you do not receive it within 3 business days of your purchase, please send an email to support at artellmedia.com requesting the agreement.


What Happened to the Askey Code?

It is no longer needed for this new version 1.9.3.9 and above.

Can I install versions 1.9.3.9+ over previous versions?

No. We suggest that you uninstall any previous version before you install 1.9.3.9. To uninstall a previous version do A or B.

A. Recommended - Use the MS Windows control panel and uninstall Artworks.

B. Start the install program for version you have, even if it is a trial version (e.g. ArtworksB1810T.exe, ArtworksB1905.exe, etc.).

Once started, if you see the "License Agreement" screen , "Cancel" the install, and use the Windows Control Panel method above.

Otherwise, the install wizard will ask you if you want to Modify, Repair, or Remove the older version (see screen shot below). Click "Remove" and follow the on-screen instructions. When done, "Exit", then install version 1.9.3.9.





Who is Permitted to Download the Software?

The Artellmedia Portal is a private and secure website for Artellmedia members only. You become a member when you purchase a license to Artworks Basic and have accepted the agreement mentioned above.

I am a member authorized to download updates. Where do I go to download the latest update?

The only way to get the link to download updates is from Artellmedia in an email.

When you were approved to use our portal, we sent you an email. The Subject Line in that email states "Access Approved - Download Artworks Basic". It contains your account information and the secure link to the Artellmedia portal.

How do I login to download the latest update?

Use your account information (Artellmedia ID and Password) to log in. It was provided by email when you were authorized for download access.

The Subject Line in the email with your account information states "Access Approved - Download Artworks Basic". Once logged in, you can download the latest software release available to you from the "Updates" page.

Is the link to the Artellmedia Portal somewhere on Artellmedia's Website?

No. For added security we do "not" make the link to the Artellmedia Portal public so you will not find it here. The link was sent in an email when access to our portal was approved.

Lost the link to the Artellmedia Portal?

Send a request by email to support with your Name, Artellmedia ID, City, State/Province, and Zip/Postal Code and we will send you the link by email. We need that information to verify you as a member.


Lost your Password?

Go to the Artellmedia Portal, click the "Forgot your Password?" button, and follow the on-screen instructions. Artellmedia Support will send a new password to the email address listed on your profile page.


Can't find your Artellmedia ID?

If you have one of these versions, 1.8+ to 1.9.0.5, start Artworks Basic, click on the "Help" menu, and select the submenu "Artellmedia Subscription Key". The field with your Artellmedia ID is labeled "Member ID".

If you have an version, send a request to support at artellmedia.com with your full name, City, State/Province, and Zip/Postal Code. Upon verification, we will send you an Artellmedia ID.


I am a Customer from years ago. How do I get an Artellmedia Portal account?

If you have a valid end-user licence to use Artworks Basic, follow the steps below to apply for an Artellmedia Portal account.

Steps to Apply for an Artellmedia Portal Account


To apply for an Artellmedia Portal account, send an email with the following information...

Subject Line:
Request Download Agreement

Email Body:

Provide the following...
- Name
- Artellmedia ID (or Member ID),
- City, State/Prov, Zip/Postal Code, and Country
- Serial Number or Askey Code for verification

Send your email to: support at artellmedia.com

What will happen?

Artellmedia Support will send you an email with the "Download Artworks Basic - User Agreement" usually within 24 hours on business days (M-F). The email will ask you to read the terms and conditions of the User Agreement and respond with "I ACCEPT".

Obviously, for approval, you must reply to that email with "I ACCEPT".

On approval, Artellmedia Support will send you an email with your account information and the secure link to the portal. Use the account information and follow the instructions provided.

Install Instructions - Artworks Basic

To install 1.9.3.9+, download the document below and use only the first step of the two steps. The "askey code" is no longer used so that step is no longer needed.

To install updates for Artworks Basic versions 1.8+ to 1.9.0.5 (which need the askey code), there are two steps...

1. Install the Serial Number (S/N)
2. Install the Askey Code (A/C) (artellmedia subscription key)

Print the electronic "Artworks Basic Help" pages

The electronic "Artworks Basic Help" file that comes with the software uses web frames. Frames are great for navigating around the Help document, but they are not so great for printing unless you know what to do.

Retired Product Names

LightStudio (2002) and ColorNotes (2004), formerly published by our old business name Artclass Technologies Inc., are no longer supported.

The "G-Lab 2.0" Color System was the former name used for the Gagnon 2.0 Color System until January 2009. Gagnon is the last name of the author and inventor of the color system and the "virtual method" for learning, teaching, and making art.

Technically, the only real difference between the G-Lab 2.0 and Gagnon 2.0 color systems is in terminology. The printed colors and notation are exactly the same. What is called "chroma" in the Gagnon system is labeled "intensity" in the G-Lab 2.0 system.
